STATEMENT BY THE CHAIRPERSON

Thursday 17 December 2020

The Queensland Coal Mining Board of Inquiry has provided Part I of its report to the Minister for Resources, the Honourable Scott Stewart MP.

Part I of the Report includes findings and recommendations in respect of most matters that have been the subject of inquiry to date. Completion of chapters on labour hire and the roles of the Site Safety and Health Representatives and Industry Safety and Health Representatives has been deferred pending evidence concerning the Grosvenor mine.

Part I of the Report, provided on 30 November 2020, is available here.

The Board continues its preparations for further public hearings next year.

One of the matters the Board is investigating is the continuous inertisation of active goafs. Any hearings required to address this matter are likely to be held in late February 2021.

Hearings into all matters concerning the Grosvenor mine, including the serious accident and the methane exceedances identified in the Terms of Reference, are expected to commence on 9 March 2021.

Part II of the Report will be provided to the Minister for Resources by 31 May 2021.
